A solo physician in a world of increasingly corporate medicine is certain to raise eyebrows. It’s not that I don’t know how to ‘play in the sandbox’ with others. I simply feel that a small practice affords me more opportunities to devote attention to the physician-patient relationship, which serves as the foundation for family medicine. Below are three core values that shape my practice.
On Time
Your time is valuable. Waiting for an appointment is unacceptable. Given my small clinic with a low overhead I have the luxury of 30 minute minimum appointments. This translates into adequate time for your visit without cutting into the next patient’s time. I like to refer to my reception area as the “No-waiting room”.
Accessible
You don’t access your bank account in the same fashion that you did 20 years ago. Medicine should be just as user friendly. Unfettered access to your provider; access not constrained by the many layers of a traditional clinic allows for expanded opportunities in health care. Some call it concierge care. I call it good medicine. I am a patient-centered medical home and offer the following:
• Same-day appointments
• On-line scheduling
• e-visits and scheduled phone consultations
• 24-hour cell phone access
• Home visits
Up-to-Date
Marcus Welby had it easy. Modern medicine is increasingly complex. Using electronic resources I am able to better assist you in making appropriate health care decisions.
Embracing technology promotes safety in health care. My secure electronic medical record (EMR) allows me to: prescribe electronically, provide you with an electronic copy of your health record, access your chart even when I am not in the office.
My EMR also allows you to be engaged in your health care—even when not at the office. Through a secure patient portal you can access your health records, communicate with me electronically, and even schedule an appointment.
